Denture Cleaning

*Remove dentures and brush any food debris under warm running water.

*You may want to place a towel on or in the sink so that the dentures won’t break if you drop them. Handle your dentures carefully.

*Be sure you don’t bend or damage your denture especially any with plastic or metal clasps.

*Take care that you are using the correct cleaning soak as some contain corrosives (Chlorine)and will damage or tarnish the metal components on your Chrome dentures. If in doubt contact your dentist or (CDT) who will be more than happy to advise.

*Place dentures in a solution of warm soapy water ie: a small amount of any washing up liquid and leave to soak for 2 minutes, rinse the soap off before using any denture cream.

*Avoid stiff-bristled brushes, strong cleansers and harsh toothpaste, as these are too abrasive and can damage your dentures. Toothpastes advertised as whitening pastes are especially abrasive and should be avoided with removable dentures.

*Please be be careful: Not to scrub too hard as this may cause grooves in the surface and encourage bacterial growth to form.

Use a denture cream and a soft bristled brush to clean clean all tooth surfaces, including the fitting surface of your
denture. ie the surface which comes into contact with your gums.) just as you would your own teeth.

* Use a soft-bristled toothbrush on natural teeth and gauze or a soft denture toothbrush to clean your tongue and palate.

* Rinse your dentures with clean water before replacing especially if using a denture-soaking solution. Please take care, these solutions can contain harmful chemicals that cause vomiting, pain or burns if swallowed.
* At least once a week place your dentures into a cleaning solution (effervescent solution ) following the
manufacturers instructions. Check with your dentist or Clinical Dental Technician about properly storing your dentures overnight.

*Remember to *Rinse *Soak *Brush *Rinse

*Attend regular dental checkups. Your Dentist or Clinical Dental Technician (CDT) will advise you about how often to visit to have your dentures examined or professionally cleaned if necessary.

*Call us promptly if your dentures become loose as this can cause irritation, sores and infection.

*The use of an effervescent denture cleaner will help remove stubborn stains and leave your denture feeling fresher, this is especially important if you use any kind of denture fixative.

  • If you notice a build up of stubborn stains or scale, you can have your dentures cleaned.
